Tour begins by climbing the mountainous Klondike Highway, driving by mini-bus, north to the US/Canadian border, paralleling the 1898 Gold Rush Trail to the White Pass summit at 3292 feet. Along the way, view coastal rainforest, magnificent waterfalls, glaciers, and snow capped peaks. We make multiple stops at scenic views like Moore Creek bridge, Welcome to Alaska sign, Summit Lake and Tormented Valley.
Once in Canada, we journey through spectacular scenery of dramatic lakes encircled by mile-high mountains and the Northern Boreal forest wilderness. Stunning Tutshi and Tagish Lakes, the Welcome to the Yukon sign and Bove Island viewpoints are all great photo stops. In Carcross area, visit the small village on the shores of historic Lake Bennett, see the “World’s Smallest Desert” and marvel at the gorgeous green Emerald Lake. We watch for wildlife (including Bears, Moose, Caribou, Dall Sheep and Mountain Goats) all along our route.
For our mid-tour break, we stop at Wild Adventure Yukon (formerly Caribou Crossing). You’ll see a premier educational wildlife gallery, featuring over 100 Yukon and Arctic taxidermy animals, including one of the world’s largest mounted polar bears and recreations of Ice Age species. Included are history displays about the Gold Rush and Canadian Mounties. There is a large gift shop for unique souvenirs. Lunch is delicious BBQ chicken, roasted potato, coleslaw, rolls, coffee/tea, and yummy homemade donuts. (Vegetarian/vegan/gluten free option of Dahl (Red Lentil Stew) and rice is available. Lunch orders are taken at departure time). You can also visit the Sled Dog camp during our time there, where you can see the husky dogs and puppies. All guests will be able to view and photograph the puppies (foster pups or husky pups), either napping or playing in their pen, however one on one interaction time with them is not guaranteed. Also you can visit with the resident animals in the petting area – come face to face with Alpacas, donkeys, miniature goats, chickens, horse and pony.
The Yukon Discovery tour has the most variety and distance of our tours. There is world-class scenery around every turn that you’ll never forget!
